Well done to our CommunicATe Group for successfully planning and enjoying a trip to Chester to visit the Cheshire Military Museum, have lunch and explore the historic city.
The group was set up to give the people we support in the Community Health & Wellbeing team more agency and responsibility, particularly in terms of the activities they do.
The group enjoy planning trips to a variety of places across the region, and are given responsibility to plan and organise these activities themselves, bringing any issues they face to managers for help and discussion.
Most recently the men decided they would like to visit the Cheshire Military Museum. They planned the trip over a number of weeks with help from staff.
Mike Stormes, who helps support and coordinate the group, said:
“The group were given specific tasks and, with support, planned the transport and lunch. The group successfully managed to organise getting two buses to Chester, getting into the museum and paying for everyone.
“After the museum, the guys had organised to go to The Church in Chester for a meal, which was well organised after looking at the menu prior to going.
“Thanks to the Cheshire Military Museum for accommodating our group. Their team helped make the day a success, especially Joe Murphy and Nicholas East who welcomed the group, ensured a low arousal area for them and gave time for the people we support to process all the information.
“The staff at The Church restaurant were also very accommodating, patient, friendly and the food was amazing.
“We then had a nice walk around Chester city walls before returning home. The CommunicATe group can’t wait for their next adventure!”
Now, have a watch of this video Mike put together of the group’s recent outing to Chester…
