Wirral Autistic Society are lining up an exciting series of events to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, on the 2nd April, 2014.
In its seventh year, World Autism Awareness Day was set up by a United Nations General Assembly declaration in 2008, the day aims “to highlight the need to help improve the lives of children and adults who suffer from the disorder so they can lead full and meaningful lives.”
At Wirral Autistic Society we see this day as an opportunity to educate as many people about what autism is and to challenge views as to what it means to be autistic!
We have planned an exciting series of events including:
Pyramids Shopping Centre – Join Rick Myers and the fundraising team at the Pyramids Shopping Centre, Birkenhead at lunchtime to find out World Autism Awareness Day and what autism actually means.
Odeon Cinema, Bromborough – There are a series of autism friendly cinema screenings on April 2nd, 3rd and 4th and join the Step into Work+ and Children and Family Service teams to find out more about how they can help autistic children, adults and their families for an hour each day from 4pm.
Light Cinema, New Brighton – are showing two autism friendly screenings – Muppets Most Wanted at 5pm and Captain America: The Winter Soldier at 7.30 + free bag of popcorn with pin badge available from Rainbow Resource Centre – Tickets in advance so you can just walk in – download our information poster here
CVS Art Exhibition at Floral Pavilion – The Creative Arts department will be having an exhibition of paintings, drawings and ceramics at the Floral Pavilion (Plaza Lounge) in New Brighton on the week of 31st March to 6th April.
Narrow boat team – Crew of our narrow boat, Raby Enterprise, will be decked out in themed t-shirts for the day along the Shropshire Union Canal, near Tattenhall and will have adorned the narrow boat in planters of blue flowers. Blue is a colour theme that will cross over some of our activities as we also ‘Light it up Blue’ at Oak House during the evening.
