Wirral Autistic Society’s Step into Work Plus programme has been shortlisted as a Finalist for Independent Specialist Care Awards 2014 (Autism Spectrum Services Category).

The Independent Specialist Care Awards draws attention to the best performing private and voluntary sector providers working in the provision of services for adults with learning or physical disabilities or mental health conditions, including residential care, homecare or specialist hospitals. Finalists have been carefully selected from among the many and highly competitive nominations received.

Step Into Work plus is a Big Lottery funded scheme set up specifically by Wirral Autistic Society to develop work skills, provide work experience and employment opportunities to adults with autism who are not funded to purchase additional services.

Hema Chandrashekhar, Placement Officer, said “The success of our programme is down to the network of contacts and professional relationships we have worked hard to create. Students, employers, placement providers, parents, families, carers, the Society itself along with the Big Lottery all link together to make this programme work.”

Beverley Breen, Programme Manager, said “We are delighted to be named amongst only 6 Finalists at these prestigious national awards. Our nomination is a testament to the very hard work put in by all staff and students, from the early days of the Big Lottery bid right upto the present, when we are able to boast of some great outcomes for our Step Into Work plus students. We wish all the finalists “Good Luck” for the 12th March 2014!”
