On a very wet and windy afternoon 50 people turned out to play on New Brighton’s new Mini-Golf course to take part in the Wirral Autistic Society’s Adventure Golf Challenge.
Despite the weather everyone really enjoyed the experience and said they would be back again if the event became an annual one. The teams included entries from the Queen’s Royal Hotel, the Light Cinema, the Town Hall and many others including a celebrity team of Mike McCartney, John Gorman and Dean Sullivan and Johnny Kennedy.
The Adventure Golf Club team won the day and the trophy but the biggest winner was our Lifetime Appeal as £348 was raised towards the appeal.
Nick Ashfield, owner of the course, donated free rounds to those entering who paid just £6 a head for an 18 hole round with all the money going direct to the appeal.
Mike McCartney said: “The last time I played golf was with the Beatles in the early sixties. I had been taking pictures of them at Woolton Golf Course with George Harrison’s new car – an Anglia! We played a few holes and the only one I beat was John Lennon because he was blind as a bat!
