Our Autism Approach
We recognise that people with autism have two main areas of difficulty:
Social Interaction and
Addressing the communication needs is a fundamental responsibility of every member of our staff.
We acknowledge the importance of getting communication right for individuals and that a person with autism will think and see things differently.
All our staff have a good knowledge of autism and build on this knowledge through training and the implementation of appropriate strategies and techniques.
These strategies and techniques include the following:
- To help people with autism understand we use TEACCH, KISS, social stories and communication key rings.
- To help people with autism express themselves we use PECS, Makaton, Communication books and Communication dictionaries.
