Children and Families service sets up outreach service
Autism Together’s Children and Families service are now able to provide autism-specific support to families with children under 18 in their own homes.
Children and Families already provide a range of popular support groups, courses and social opportunities for Merseyside families.
The new outreach support packages are designed to give parents and carers a little ‘me time’; the opportunity for a night out or a shopping trip or even a bit of extra support during the school holidays for working parents.
The support packages are entirely based on the needs of the young person involved and specific goals can be built in, such as helping children to build confidence, learn how to use public transport or develop a healthy bedtime or bathing routine.
Autism Together’s highly trained staff can also help children develop their communication skills through the use of PECs or visual structures.
Service manager Phil Hatton said: “We’ve been asked so often by parents for just this service. We all know that just a little quality time away from our children can make so much difference.”
Packages of support are for a minimum of two hours and cost £17.50 per hour of support per staff member. The service can be funded through direct payments, personal budgets, via NHS commissioning or privately by families.
