Step into Work +
Autism Together (Wirral Autistic Society) has been fortunate to have been granted funding from the Big Lottery Fund. This enabled us to set up the ‘Step Into Work Programme’ which will reach out to adults with Asperger’s Syndrome who are not currently involved with the organisation and who are looking for full or part time employment.
The programme will run over 24 weeks, 8 weeks will be based in the Step Into Work Centre where students will work on literacy, numeracy, ICT and general life skills. This will be followed by a 12 week work based placement and finally back to the Step Into Work Centre for a 4 week follow up.
The newly refurbished Step Into Work Centre is fully equipped with touch screen PCs, laptops and an interactive whiteboard.
The Programme Manager Beverley Breen and Placement Officer Hema Chandrashekhar will offer students support and guidance throughout their work based placement by regular review sessions and visits to the work place. They will work closely with employers to ensure a happy and successful work placement for the students.
The Big Lottery Fund distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK. The Fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
